VEED is an online video editor from a UK company of the same name that does all its work in the browser with no software to install. It became known for auto subtitles and now has many AI tools: video translation and dubbing, talking avatars, background removal, audio cleanup, eye-contact correction and text-to-video. What sets it apart from rivals is the combination of a simple browser editor with strong subtitle and translation tools, built for content and training teams.

What is VEED good for?#

  • Auto subtitles: an online course instructor uploads a lesson video, gets automatic subtitles and only fixes the mistakes.
  • Translation and dubbing: a business with an international audience translates a product intro video into other languages and dubs it with an AI voice.
  • Screen and webcam recording: a developer or site support person records a tutorial on using a dashboard together with their own camera and edits it right there.
  • Reels and short clips: a store's page converts a landscape video to vertical and adds animated subtitles and a progress bar.
  • Text-to-video: a marketer gives some text or an idea and gets a draft video with visuals, voiceover and subtitles.
  • Audio cleanup: reduce noise and echo from home recordings so a talking video sounds more professional.

Strengths and weaknesses#

Strengths:

  • Fully in the browser, with no install, on any system
  • Subtitles and translation in many languages
  • A simple interface suited to people who do not know a professional editor
  • Teamwork and brand features for companies

Weaknesses:

  • The free plan has a watermark and serious limits on output quality and length
  • Many AI tools use credits separately, and costs rise
  • Online processing is annoying with a slow connection and large files
  • It cannot match desktop editors for long, complex projects

Free plan and pricing#

VEED is freemium. The free plan is enough for getting acquainted: basic editing, screen recording, a limited amount of auto subtitles and a short trial of some AI tools, but output has a watermark and limited quality and length. Paid plans remove the watermark, raise output quality and the subtitle allowance, and add credits for AI tools such as avatars and dubbing. Check the official site for current prices.

Subtitle language support#

VEED offers auto subtitles, translation and dubbing in many languages. Speech recognition is acceptable with clean audio, but accents, colloquial expressions and specialized words produce errors, so manual review is needed. Also check how non-Latin text renders on the video before exporting, since letter order and fonts can occasionally break. Dubbed voices in some languages still do not sound natural.

Getting started in three steps#

  1. Sign up on the VEED site with an email or Google account and create a new project.
  2. Upload the video, generate auto subtitles in the right language from the subtitles section and correct them.
  3. Set the subtitle style and frame size for the target social network and export.

VEED alternatives#

  • CapCut: more free features and stronger mobile and desktop versions.
  • Descript: edit video from its speech transcript, good for podcasts and training video.
  • HeyGen: more specialized in talking avatars and translation with lip sync.
  • OpusClip: for automatically cutting long video into short clips.
