ManyChat is a tool for automating conversations on business messaging channels, especially Instagram DMs, Facebook Messenger and WhatsApp. Instead of answering every message by hand, you build "flows": if the customer says this, reply with that. What sets it apart from website chatbots is that it works on the channels where your audience already is, and it is built for selling through social media.
What is ManyChat good for?#
- Comment to DM: a follower writes a keyword under a post and the bot sends the product link or price list in a direct message.
- Answering repeat questions: an Instagram shop quickly answers questions about shipping, stock and opening hours.
- Collecting contacts: the bot asks for an email or phone number in the conversation and builds a contact list.
- Sales follow-up: a reminder message to someone who showed interest but did not buy.
- First-line support: the bot handles simple questions before the conversation reaches a human agent.
Strengths and weaknesses#
Strengths:
- A visual flow builder that needs no programming.
- Focus on Instagram and WhatsApp, which matter for selling.
- Ready-made templates for a quick start.
- AI features for more flexible replies.
Weaknesses:
- It depends on Meta's rules and changes; a feature can be restricted suddenly.
- Cost grows as your contact count grows.
- The interface is in English and non-English AI quality is not the strongest.
- Too many automated or irrelevant messages ruin the customer experience.
Free version and pricing#
ManyChat has a limited free plan that suits testing; contact and feature limits are low and the tool's branding may appear on messages. Paid plans are priced by active contacts and features. Check the official site for current prices.
Language support and access#
You can write and send messages in other languages, but the interface is in English and the AI side is not strongest outside English; write and test your flow texts yourself.
ManyChat must connect to your Instagram, Facebook or WhatsApp accounts, and access to those services from Iran is limited. We are not sure how usable it is in practice; test with a free account.
