Tripo AI is the 3D product from VAST: you provide text or a photo (even several views of an object) and get a 3D model back. Its focus is more professional than most rivals: clean meshes, retopology, texturing, rigging and links to 3D software. If you want a model you will later place in a game engine or animate, those features matter.
What is Tripo AI good for?#
- Game prototypes: an indie developer gets simple scene assets in minutes and refines them more carefully later.
- Photo to model: a photo of a product or a sculpture becomes a simple 3D model.
- Movable characters: with the rigging tools you prepare a simple character for animation.
- Blender add-on: a 3D artist drafts models without leaving their software.
- API generation: a technical team can wire model generation into its own app, for example for a store or a design tool.
Strengths and weaknesses#
Strengths:
- Good speed and relatively clean meshes.
- Different modes for high detail or lighter meshes.
- Texturing, rigging and retopology tools in one suite.
- An official add-on and an API for integration into workflows.
Weaknesses:
- Complex models and delicate objects still have errors.
- Raw output usually needs manual work for professional use.
- Prompts in languages other than English are not reliable.
- The free plan is not enough for real workloads.
Free version and pricing#
Tripo has a free version with limited credits that is good for trying it out; paid plans add more credits, speed and professional features. The API is billed separately. See the official site for current prices and commercial-use terms.
Language support and access#
Write prompts in English or use a reference image. We are not sure about access from Iran, so the directory marks it as unknown.
Getting started in three steps#
- Start with a clear image on a plain background, or a short description.
- Review the first result and, if needed, generate a texture or a lighter mesh.
- Export in the format your game engine or 3D software accepts.
