Krisp is an app for cleaning up the sound of online calls. It sits between your microphone and speaker and your calling app, and removes keyboard clicks, traffic, chatter and echo, both from your voice and from the other person's. It later added a meeting assistant that transcribes and summarizes meetings without sending a bot into the call.

What is Krisp good for?#

  • Working from home or a cafe: background noise never reaches your colleague.
  • Phone support: a call center agent answers without surrounding sound.
  • Hearing the other side better: if they are in a noisy place, their noise is removed on your end too.
  • Podcast and course recording: cleaner sound for simple recording without a studio.
  • Meeting notes: transcripts and summaries without everyone seeing a bot join.

Strengths and weaknesses#

Strengths:

  • Very effective, instant noise removal in almost any calling app.
  • Simple installation and quiet background operation.
  • Noise is removed from both sides of the call.
  • Meeting notes without a bot.

Weaknesses:

  • The app must stay active and sometimes uses processing power.
  • Transcription and summaries are not reliable for Persian.
  • Full features are paid.
  • It cannot work miracles with very poor audio or a broken microphone.

Free version and pricing#

There is a limited free plan that is enough for noise cancellation in normal calls. The meeting assistant and heavier use need a subscription. The exact model can change, so check the official site for current prices.

Language support#

Noise removal does not depend on language and works great for calls in Persian or Arabic. Transcription and summaries are not reliable for those languages. Downloading and creating an account from Iran usually needs a VPN.

Getting started in three steps#

  1. Install the app and sign in.
  2. In your calling app (Zoom, Meet and so on), set the microphone and speaker to Krisp.
  3. Turn noise cancellation on and test quality in a trial call.

Krisp alternatives#

  • Adobe Podcast: enhances and cleans recorded audio after the fact.
  • Otter: meeting transcription and summaries, focused on text.
  • Fireflies: recording, transcription and search across meetings via a bot.
  • Fathom: a meeting note-taker with fast summaries.
