Clipdrop is a collection of fast AI image editing tools. Its job is to do small, repetitive tasks in seconds: remove a background, enlarge a photo, erase an object or distracting text, and change lighting. It was originally built by Stability AI and was later bought by Jasper. What sets it apart from heavy editors like Photoshop is speed and simplicity: you upload and get the result.

What is Clipdrop good for?#

  • Product photos: remove a cluttered background so the photo is ready on a white or colored backdrop for a store.
  • Enlarging a small photo: upscale a low-resolution image for print or a large banner.
  • Erasing distractions: remove a person, a cable or a stain in the middle of a photo.
  • Removing text from an image: erase writing or a logo on a photo.
  • Changing lighting: fix the light in a photo after it was taken.

Strengths and weaknesses#

Strengths:

  • Fast and simple, with nothing to learn.
  • Good quality in background removal.
  • Several tools in one place.
  • An API for automated use.

Weaknesses:

  • The free version limits quality or volume.
  • It does not give fine control like professional editors.
  • Ownership and product direction have changed hands, so check the current state.
  • Its image generation tools are weaker than specialist competitors.

Free version and pricing#

Clipdrop gives some tools free with limits and has a paid subscription for higher quality and more use. Check the official site for current prices.

Language support and access#

Because the tools work on images, language is not a big issue; the interface is in English and background removal or upscaling does not depend on language. Erasing non-Latin text from an image generally works like any other text, but check the output.

We are not sure about access from Iran. More extensive use usually needs an account and international payment.

Clipdrop alternatives#

  • Photoroom: specialized in product photos, with store-oriented templates.
  • Pokecut: quick background removal and editing with a simple interface.
  • Magnific: more creative upscaling that also adds new detail.
  • Topaz: professional upscaling and enhancement for images and video.
