Browser Use is a tool that lets an AI agent control a browser the way a person would: open a page, recognize buttons, click, fill in forms and read information. The core is an open-source library that connects a language model to a browser, and on top of it the team built a cloud service that provides remote browsers and ready-made agents. So it is more of a building tool than a finished app for an ordinary user.

What is Browser Use good for?#

  • Automating repetitive website tasks: for example filling in administrative forms or reading order status from several dashboards.
  • Collecting data from sites without an API: the agent browses the pages itself and builds the data table.
  • Testing a website: a developer tells the agent to walk through the sign-up flow and see where it breaks.
  • Multi-step research: open several sites, compare prices or specifications and summarize.
  • Building products on a browser agent: teams put it under the hood of their own product.

Strengths and weaknesses#

Strengths:

  • Open source and flexible; works with different models.
  • The cloud service provides remote browsers so you don't build infrastructure yourself.
  • A large developer community and active updates.

Weaknesses:

  • Not suitable for someone who doesn't program.
  • Browser agents are slow and sometimes unstable, and fail on complex or protected sites.
  • Every run costs model usage, and the bill is hard to predict.
  • Letting an agent act on real accounts is risky.

Free version and pricing#

The library is free and open source. The cloud service is billed by usage, with a small starting credit, and a fixed subscription is not required. Language model cost is separate. Check the official site for current prices.

Language support and availability#

The tool itself doesn't care about the page language; the language model reads the page. So it works with non-English pages as long as the model understands the language. The library can be installed on your own machine, but the cloud service and the models may not be reachable from Iran.

Browser Use alternatives#

  • Manus: a general cloud agent that does web tasks without coding.
  • OpenClaw: an open-source assistant on your own device, centered on messaging apps.
  • ChatGPT Atlas: a browser with a built-in agent for ordinary users.
  • Comet: a browser with a smart assistant that helps while you browse.
