What is clickbait?#

Clickbait means using a headline or cover that stirs curiosity, but the content behind it is either unrelated or far less than promised. Like "You won't believe what happened!" followed by something ordinary.

Why is it made?#

Because it gets clicks and views, at least in the short term. Some creators think the more sensational the headline, the more views.

Why does it backfire?#

  • The audience leaves quickly: and the platform sees this as a negative signal.
  • Trust drops: the audience stops believing your later headlines.
  • Follower loss: people who were tricked do not follow you.
  • Platform limits: some networks show misleading content less.

Difference from an appealing headline#

An appealing headline makes a promise and the video or article keeps it. "5 common hair color mistakes and how to avoid them" is appealing but honest. Clickbait makes a promise that is not delivered.

Example#

The headline "This trick shocked every bank!" for a video that has only one ordinary tip is clickbait.

Advice#

Use curiosity, but always build the content on that same headline. The goal is the "right click," not simply more clicks.
