You have a meeting tomorrow. The content is in your head or scattered across a few notes, but there's no time to design slide by slide. Gamma is built for exactly that moment: give it the text and in a few minutes you have a clean deck with layouts and images that only needs refining.

This Gamma AI tutorial takes you from account setup to the final file: generating a deck from a prompt or your own text, editing with AI, right-to-left presentations, exporting to PowerPoint and PDF, and a few tips that raise the quality.

What Gamma can make#

Gamma starts from text, not from a template. Its output is built from "cards," which become slides in presentation mode. There are four main output types:

TypeUse it for
PresentationMeetings, classes, product pitches, reports to your manager
DocumentReports, proposals, internal guides
Web pageEvent or workshop pages, portfolios, one-pagers
Social postMulti-image content for publishing

Getting started: from sign-up to your first deck#

  1. Go to the official Gamma website and sign up with email or a Google account.
  2. Choose to create something new. You usually have three paths: generate from a short prompt, paste in your own text, or import a file.
  3. Pick the output type (presentation, document or web page) and roughly how many cards you want.
  4. Type your topic or text. For example: "Introduce a language school's corporate training services to company managers, ten slides."
  5. Gamma proposes an outline. This is the most important step: edit section titles, delete what you don't need and fix the order.
  6. Choose a theme (colors and fonts) and review the text and image settings, such as how much text each card should have.
  7. Hit generate. A few seconds later the full deck is ready.
  8. Review it slide by slide, correct numbers and claims, then export.

Time spent on the outline pays off the most. Fixing structure after the deck is built is much harder than editing a few lines in the outline.

Three ways to create: which to choose#

  • From a prompt: the fastest route, but the content is generic and may include inaccurate claims. Good for drafts and ideas.
  • From your own text: the best quality. Paste your notes, report or article and Gamma breaks it into summary cards. You can ask it to keep your text nearly as is or to condense it.
  • From a file: import an existing document or old deck to rebuild it with a fresh design.

If your main source is a long report, pull out its key points first; we explain how in working with long documents using AI.

A real example: from meeting notes to a deck#

The manager of a small online store wants to show a business partner the last three months of sales. This path produces a solid deck in under half an hour:

  1. She writes the key points herself in a few lines: the main numbers, two problems, three proposals.
  2. She pastes the text into Gamma and asks it not to condense the text, only to organize it.
  3. In the outline she deletes a generic "introduction" section and adds a "decisions we need" section.
  4. After generation she checks every chart against her real figures.

The key point: the content came from her, and Gamma only handled layout and design.

Editing your deck with AI#

After generation you don't have to change everything by hand. Gamma has an editing assistant that takes text instructions. A few that come in handy:

Prompt
Make this slide shorter and turn it into three brief bullet points.
Prompt
Add a comparison table to this section with three columns: feature, basic plan, pro plan.
Prompt
Make the tone of the whole deck more formal and remove promotional phrases.

Besides the assistant, you can click any card to edit text directly, change its layout, add or delete cards and swap images.

Right-to-left and non-English decks#

Gamma understands prompts in many languages and can build decks in Arabic, Persian, Hebrew and others. For right-to-left languages, check these before presenting:

  • Text direction: RTL layout is supported, but in sentences that mix in English words, word order or punctuation sometimes shifts.
  • Fonts: pick a theme whose font covers your script well, or change the theme font.
  • Numbers: if you need local numerals or date formats, ask for them explicitly and review every slide.
  • Images: AI-generated images rarely render non-Latin text correctly; ask for images without text. We cover this problem in creating images with AI.

Exporting and sharing#

MethodWhen it fits
Share linkSending to a colleague or client without a file
Present modePresenting straight from the browser in a meeting
PowerPointWhen you need to keep working in PowerPoint or send a file
PDFPrinting, email attachments, or when the layout must not change
Google SlidesTeamwork inside Google's tools

After exporting to PowerPoint, check fonts and title positions; the conversion isn't always perfect. The free plan adds Gamma branding to exports; check the official pricing page for current credits and plans.

Tips and common mistakes#

  • Give it your own text. A deck generated from a bare topic is generic and looks like everyone else's.
  • Don't trust the statistics. Gamma sometimes produces numbers or claims with no source. Verify every figure against your own sources; we explain why in tokens, context windows and hallucinations.
  • Fewer cards, clearer message. A twenty-slide deck crammed with text is worse than ten clear slides.
  • One theme for everything. Build a theme with fixed brand colors and fonts so all your decks look consistent.
  • Don't upload confidential data. Clean financial reports or customer information before importing.

Access and payment options can vary by country, so test the tool well before relying on it for an important meeting.

  • The most important step is editing the outline before generating.
  • You get the best results from your own text, not just a topic.
  • For RTL decks, check text direction, fonts and numbers before presenting.
  • Verify every statistic and claim, and review the layout after exporting to PowerPoint.
