UserWay is a website accessibility service. A site owner adds a JavaScript widget, and visitors get options such as larger text, adjusted contrast and colors, and better readability. The service also tries to automatically fix some common problems, such as missing image alt text, and reports on them. Unlike an app such as Seeing AI, its audience is the site owner, not the blind user.
What is UserWay good for?#
- A store or company site: add the widget so low-vision visitors can adjust how the page looks.
- First-pass accessibility check: the dashboard lists common issues and gives a starting point for fixes.
- Automated fixes for simple issues: some problems, like incomplete labels, are filled in with AI.
- Compliance tracking: for teams dealing with standards such as WCAG, the reports help track progress.
Strengths and weaknesses#
Strengths:
- Fast setup by adding a single snippet.
- A dashboard and reports for a view of the whole site.
- The widget gives visitors control over how the page looks.
Weaknesses:
- Automated fixes do not replace fixing the root cause in code and design. Accessibility professionals and disability advocates have criticized overlay tools for this reason.
- The legal-protection claims are vendor marketing; do not treat them as legal advice.
- Manual audits and testing with real users are still needed.
- On right-to-left sites you must test the output yourself.
Free version and pricing#
It has some basic tools, while fuller features (reports, automated remediation, multiple sites) are subscriptions. Check the official site for current prices.
Language support and access from Iran#
The widget is designed with English content in mind, so test how it behaves on right-to-left pages. Signing up and using the dashboard from Iran may be problematic, and we are not sure.
Alternatives and complementary tools#
There is no close category match for web accessibility auditing in our directory, but these two complement it for blind users themselves:
- Seeing AI: Microsoft's free app that describes the real world for blind users.
- Be My Eyes: visual help from AI and volunteers.
