What does shadowban mean?#
A shadowban means your account is believed to have been restricted without warning: your posts are seen less, hashtags do not work or people cannot find you in search. The point is that platforms usually do not confirm that such a formal "ban" exists.
The truth of the matter#
Many reach drops have other causes: an algorithm change, weak content, a tired audience or breaking community guidelines. Even so, platforms may really reduce distribution for suspicious or spammy content.
Common reasons for restriction#
- Spam behavior: mass following and unfollowing, repetitive comments, rapid liking.
- Using bots or unauthorized tools.
- Content that breaks the rules or is copied.
- Banned hashtags.
- Repeated reports from users.
Example#
A page that suddenly starts using an automatic follower tool and then sees its reach fall from ten thousand to one thousand has probably been restricted for that reason.
What should you do?#
- Stop the suspicious activity (bots, spam).
- Stay active with natural behavior for a few days.
- Check your insights to see where the drop comes from.
- Read the platform's community guidelines and remove problem content.
- Ask support for help if needed.
A warning#
Tools that guarantee to "fix a shadowban" are usually scams. Do not give them your password or account.
